PROFILE: Jason Horton

Jason Horton
Owner, Jason Horton Law Firm
LT Class of 2009

Jason has lived in and practiced law in Texarkana since marrying Texarkana native Amanda Raney (a 2013 graduate of Leadership Texarkana).

This spring, Jason was honored with his election to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation, an honor which is only afforded to one-third of one percent of State Bar members annually. Fellows of the foundation are selected for their outstanding professional achievements and their demonstrated commitment to the improvement of the justice system throughout the state of Texas.

The difference of significance Jason wishes to have on our community is to recognize and build on what we have: “From a developmental standpoint, it seems that Texarkana is pulled in many different directions. There is so much opportunity for growth, but we need not lose sight of the assets we have while making decisions on what new assets to build.

“My wife Amanda and I spent years investing in revitalizing downtown Texarkana and the downtown Texarkana corridor. ... ...noting that ”We have also been lucky enough to see B.B. King, Don Williams, Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett at the Perot Theatre.”

“We are passionate about coupling business development with our existing landscape to make Texarkana desirable for others to visit or put down roots.”

Texarkana is richer for having Amanda and Jason living and leading here in Texarkana USA.

What have you learned most about making a difference in Texarkana (or about your opportunity for community leadership) from being a part of Leadership Texarkana?

"LT showed me how accessible Texarkana can be. Our elected officials and business leaders have always welcomed LT classes, which fosters continued relationships and opportunities for anyone desiring to play a larger role in our community."

What does leadership mean to you?

"Leadership means having the confidence to take chances while maintaining a level of selflessness that permits one to see the bigger picture. We all have to make money, but doing the right thing when times are tight is what separates business owners from business leaders."

For what community organization or issue or opportunity do you have a passion and invest your time, talent or money?

"My wife Amanda and I spent years investing in revitalizing downtown Texarkana and the downtown Texarkana corridor. We are passionate about coupling business development with our existing landscape to make Texarkana desirable for others to visit or put down roots."

If you had one wish and could make a difference of significance in Texarkana (your small corner) what would you do with that one wish and why?

"From a developmental standpoint, it seems that Texarkana is pulled in many different directions. There is so much opportunity for growth, but we need not lose sight of the assets we have while making decisions on what new assets to build."

What do many people not know about you that you would to share with us? What are some of your passions and hobbies?

"Before accepting a job at a Texarkana law firm when I graduated law school in 2003, my only visit to Texarkana had been stopping at Applebees for lunch in 1996. I have now lived and practiced law here for 15 years."

What do you most love to do in Texarkana?

"I enjoy attending our children’s school functions and sporting events and mountain biking at Bringle. We have also been lucky enough to see B.B. King, Don Williams, Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett at the Perot Theatre."

What do you most love about Texarkana, in general?

"Texarkana is a great place to raise a family. We have great schools and a great overall sense of community."
