Q and A with GENIA
What does leadership mean to you?
I think leadership is the ability to empower and inspire others. My favorite quote is “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Mahatma Ghandi. I cannot expect the world (community) to be a better place if I am not willing to contribute to the change that must take place in my community.
What’s your passion of involvement in our community–where you hope to make a difference?
Texarkana offers a wide range of areas to get involved. I enjoy being involved in several projects and organizations in our city. I enjoy my work with the regional arts council, volunteering with the Junior League and NAACP just to name a few. There are so many opportunities to serve in our community.
If you had one wish and could make a huge difference in Texarkana (your small corner) what would you do with that one wish and why?
Beautification! I think it would be great if our main roads (entrances into our city – State Line, Airport exit onto Broad St., etc.) were more welcoming. This is the route that many developers or potential business owners use to visit our city.
What do many people not know about you that you would to share with us?
I like to fish, as long as I don’t have to bait the hook or take the fish off the hook after I catch it.
What are some of your passions and hobbies?
I LOVE to travel and read (when I have time)
What do you most love to do in Texarkana?
Dining out with family and driving to the lake.
A native of Wichita, KS, Genia has earned certification for computer technology and holds BAAS and MBA degrees from Texas A&M Texarkana. Recognized for her tireless volunteerism and dedication to education and the community, Genia has been honored witht the Martin Luther King, Jr. Individual Acts of Kindness Award, the Tri-County Development Outstanding Dedication Award and the Zeta Phi Beta Community Leadership Award.
