What have you learned most about making a difference in Texarkana (or about your opportunity for community leadership) from being a part of Leadership Texarkana?

I had an opportunity to meet amazing people who are making a difference, and visit places that are impacting our community in education and economics.   Being a LT grad helped me reaffirm my commitment to organizations I already belong to and look for ways that I can be of service to other organizations.

What does leadership mean to you?

Leadership is serving others while inspiring them to make a difference in the community.  Leaders help impact the world we live in. They not only lead, but they take people along the journey with them.  They help develop future leaders.

For what community organization or issue or opportunity do you have a passion and invest your time, talent or money?

I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. The Texarkana Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has a vested interest in the community. Some of the activities or ways in which we help in the community is donating to local food drives, providing scholarships for high school seniors, and organizing health fairs.

My passion is working with children to help them see their talents and gifts, so most of the activities/programs that I am involved in are geared towards children. DKG is another organization that I belong to that donates to local shelters, provides scholarships to students, and books to the Literacy Council. This is an organization for women educators that promotes excellence in education and service to the community.

If you had one wish and could make a difference of significance in Texarkana (your small corner) what would you do with that one wish and why?

I would love to see A Boys and Girls Club opened in Texarkana Arkansas. This would be benefit children from Texas and Arkansas. I would like for the children to be taught through their sports or recreational activities how to serve their community and the importance of giving back. I think that the children and their parents (community) should have a role in making this come to life, either by helping to raise the funds or helping contractors and builders with minor construction work. What a great way to see this community working together for a great cause.

What do many people not know about you that you would to share with us?  What are some of your passions and hobbies?

Many people do not know that I love to fish!  I enjoy all aspects of nature.  Some of my hobbies include working out at Legends Gym, reading, and playing tennis.

What do you most love to do in Texarkana?

I really enjoy the walking trails and parks that we have in Texarkana.  The walking trails are a great place to ride your bike and the parks provide a fun and safe place for families to have a wonderful time.

What do you most love about Texarkana, in general?

I love the people in Texarkana the most. We have some amazing people in this community who work hard each day to make a difference in the lives of others.
