Stepping Up to
Make a Difference

“Leadership means serving others by equipping them with the education, training and tools necessary to be successful.  A true leader inspires and motives others to tap into their own skills and talents, and to freely share ideas that contribute to the whole vision or cause.”

Things to do in Texarkana this week...

  • Must try: Three Chicks Feed & Seed on Genoa Road is an awesome place to bring out the kids. They have a friendly turkey named Trey that the kids (or you) can pet and several other animals such as chickens, rabbits, etc. to entertain the whole family. With a full-service restaurant and a country store selling homemade jelly, jam, honey, etc. this could be a one-stop shop for your Saturday afternoon!

  • Go Live:  Don't miss TexRep's production of the 35th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at TC's Stilwell Theatre– final three performances Feb 19-21.  YOU may be part of the cast as four from the audience are invited onstage!  Tons of fun, lots of laughs.

  • Check it out: Melverue Abraham @ Regional Art Center - Rhythms of the Spirit from I and I features Works from artist Melverue Abraham highlighting African American culture and traditions, with a variety of media from an artist who began her foray into the art world in 1985.

Free. All week.  Special Saturday Reception and programming. Feb 20.

  • Hardly seen any horses? The 6th annual Runnin' WJ Benefit Horse Cutting will take place at the Four States Fairgrounds. Horse cutting has nothing to do with glue; it is a western style competition in which a rider and their horse display the horse's athleticism and ability to handle cattle. The Runnin' WJ Ranch is a local non-profit serving therapeutic equestrian interactions with over 200 youth each week. Broaden your horizon and support a great cause. Feb 19-20.
  • Step on a crack, Break your back:  OR sign on to Run the Line Half-Marathon and benefit Partnership for the Pathway.  Join the 500+ runners gathering downtown for the starting gun of this unique experience, running our state line and the beautiful green trails on both sides.  Family and corporate relay teams add to the fun, with entertainment along the way. Sign up to run or to cheer and support, as a single or as a family, and double your weekend fun. Feb 21.
  • Breathe in the beauty: Enjoy the fruits of the city's and Pathway Partnership's labors with a stroll any day of the week on the Nix Trail; go with family or friends– or solo for your own bliss and well-being. Attend the state of the buds so you can track the coming of spring on your return visits.
  • Moms Unite for the Mom Power! Conference in Texarkana, and for $20 you can too. Keynote speaker is Mommy blogger Melissa Blair.  The event will give mothers the opportunity to share stories, strategies, and life advise. Whether it's positive parenting, couponing, college savings, or avoiding Taylor Swift's advice to "Shake it Out", you're sure to learn something.  Feb 20

  • Are those shoes? Remember the good ole days when you stopped by the shoe shiner in front of the old bank building or hospital and your shoes looked brand new for about the cost of a Triple Venti Mocha Frappuccino? There's no reason at all that your shoes shouldn't look just as good in 2016. Dig out those old boots and bring them by Steele's Shoe & Saddle Repair on Summerhill Road; it'll be like Christmas all over again.

Totally T-Town favorite foods:

  • Best comfort food: “Vegetable Plate from Bryce's - specifically the black eyed peas, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, and sometimes red beets, but always jalapeno cornbread.”
    Richard Reynolds

  • Best meal in T-Town: "I love the Smothered Pork Chops from Golden Lady!"  Kristi Dempsey
