Things to do in Texarkana October 16-22, 2017 

1. Komen Texarkana Race for the Cure. Saturday, Oct. 21. Join others in the community to raise funds and build awareness for the fight against breast cancer! If you haven’t signed up, no worries—late registration begins at 7 a.m. on race day. 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m., and family fun stroll begins at 9:30 a.m. Located at Four States Fairgrounds and Bobby Ferguson Park. Learn more.

2. Taste of Texarkana. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 5 p.m. Head to the 26th Annual Taste of Texarkana to sample foods from our area’s most popular restaurants, diners, bakeries and food trucks! Held at the Four States Fairgrounds. Ticket sales end TODAY at noon—-buy online now while they’re still available! 

3. Community Fall Festival. Thursday, Oct. 19, 5-7 p.m. Texarkana Texas Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the 7th Annual Fall Festival at Spring Lake Park, a family event with hay rides, costume contests, bounce houses, face painting, and more! 4. Bark in the Park. Saturday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Take your furry friends to this FREE community-wide event promoting city registration and rabies vaccination for dogs and cats of local Texarkana residents. Other low-cost vaccinations and $30 microchipping will also be available. Learn more

5. Get Creative!



  • Drop-in Art Workshop. Saturday, Oct. 21, 1-4 p.m. Parents, drop by the basement of the Regional Arts Center with your kiddos to create some art! Admission is free, and supplies are provided. A parent or guardian must be present with their child.

6. Business Credit Literacy Initiative. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 1-2:30 p.m. Hosted by the Northeast Texas Small Business Development Center, this free workshop is an entrepreneur’s guide to credit and money! Held at the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce at 819 North State Line Ave. Register online.

7. Infant CPR Training. Tuesday, Oct. 17. 6-7:30 p.m. For parents-to-be, grandparents, caretakers or small children, or anyone who wants to be prepared: learn infant CPR to help babies who are choking or aren’t breathing at CHRISTUS St Michael’s infant CPR training session. Free; registration is required

8. TAMU-T PLACE Guest Lecture featuring Dr. Kris Lane. Thursday, Oct. 19, 7-9 p.m. Program for Learning and Community Engagement (PLACE) presents Dr. Kris Lane, Guest Lecture, “Worth a Peru: Silver, Technological Innovation and Environmental Degradation in Sixteenth-Century South America.” Free in Texas A&M-Texarkana’s University Center 217.

9. Follow the Yellow Brick Road! Saturday, Oct. 21, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Help the Ace of Clubs House make a Yellow Brick Road! Join in on Wizard of Oz inspired activities and decorate your very own yellow brick to take home as a doorstop, or make your own pair of mini ruby red slippers. Free for TMS members and kids under 3; others $5. Learn more.

10. Crooked Halo at Scottie’s Grill. Saturday, Oct. 21, 8 p.m. Rock out to some live music from Crooked Halo at Scottie’s Grill this weekend!
